1926 Coupe assembly order? need help

Post by varmint » Sat Jun 03, 2023 12:54 pm

I failed to find a simple list of the best order to install components.
The 1926 Coupe was purchased dissembled with parts missing.
The engine & transmission are mounted in the frame, connected to the drive shaft and the radius rod.
From my reading, this is my best guess of the correct order to put it back together:

starter, Bendix, cover
generator
carburetor
steering column
engine splash shields
splash aprons
front fenders

gas tank under cowl
body on frame
steering column to dash & firewall
rear fenders
running boards

Horn and water outlet
coil box
timer
fan and belt
fuel line
hood shelves
radiator, rod to cowl
radiator cover
hoses
head lights, cross bar
linkages from carb. to steering column, dash, radiator
gauges
electrical wiring
hood

Thanks,
Vern

I’d install that below radiator shield (through which the crank protrudes) before the front fenders.
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people 🤪

And install that steering column after the body is lifted up and on the frame, would be too high a lift to put that tall coupe body over the steering column.

You may want to refer to a series of posts by Bruce Brakke on his '26 coupe assembly process with nice photos. Just click on his user name, BLB27 and his posts with titles will come up for easy viewing.

Here is his 'body drop' day photo, body on frame, yet to place steering column.

Vern
There is no simple list. Many people restore and assemble a running chassis first that they drive around on to break in the engine and ultimately to have fun after finally getting it running. Then when the body is ready, remove the steering column and install the body. Most things like electrical, fuel tank, upholstery, top, doors, trunk lid, glass, fenders, running boards, splash shields, and lights can be done anytime in almost any order after the body is on the chassis. There are some things that need to be done in order, and that will become obvious as you progress.

Thanks,

George,
I forgot all about the radiator apron. Need to finish making the part.
