Size Matters

The Model T Ford transmission repair book, published by the MTFCA, recommends a 15 gallon solvent or oil drum makes a nice stand for an assembled T transmission for charging or other purposes. Fifteen gallon drums are much smaller in diameter than 55 gallon drums. My question is for someone who uses a 15 gallon drum for a transmission stand, WHAT is the diameter of the open top of a 15 gallon drum? I have a chance to get a 5 gallon oil can that measures 11 inches in diameter, but that seems to be a bit too small.

A flywheel measures 15", so I expect you want a drum at least that wide for a stand.
I don't know how many gallons that is.

A five gallon plastic bucket works just fine especially if you have one of those small shop stools sold at HB FOR $20
