A red front floor map

Post by Herb Iffrig » Sat Jun 10, 2023 8:46 am

I was surfing the internet and came across a 1916 Ford for sale. It has a red front floor mat. I have never seen one of these before. I have only heard of black ones or white ones. If this is not an original Ford issued mat I might wonder if it is an old reproduction, or a white one that turned red like the white tires that turned brown.

The wood around the pedals is the same red color and the red mat has bleached to near tan in places. I have my doubts that it was made red and am more inclined to believe that someone mopped on a dye of some sort.

Not original.

Dimensions are incorrect just like a reproduction - original mats aren't that wide and don't go "wall to wall"

No notch below the steering column for bulb horn tube/electric horn wire

No notch on right hand side for speedo cable

Long ago there was a guy who sold T floor mats in black, red and green. I think his name was M H Martin, he advertised in the early issues of the Vintage Ford.

A genuine Ford mat will say Made in USA down in the corner of the script.

I hadn't seen that before. How about a nice chartreuse?

When did I do that?

I notice that both the red mat and green mat have a round metal object on the right side of the flat area. What is it?

The round thing looks like a wheel bearing.

Kim is right Martin also made Model N, R, & S floor mats in the same color choices. My N has one of his black mats.

I looked at the pictures again and the shadows are the same on both pictures. I think it is the same car with some trick adjustment to change the color of the floormat.
