24 Coupe and the starter isn't working. The person who i bought it from had said he tried to weld the bendix but wasn't confident in the repair. It has worked for 8 months but now it doesn't. I'll investigate and see if i can do anything but which one of you guys fixes / rebuilds / sells starters?

before you remove it, be sure to remove the bendix first. It will not come out with it attached and all you'll do is destroy the MAG ring if you try

you may perhaps just have a bum bendix, anyway and not a bad starter

starter and bendix are two entirely separate entities and one being rebuilt will not get the other rebuilt.

Remove the bendix assembly first as Scott says. It sounds like the starter itself is OK from your comments.

It may be time to replace the whole bendix assembly with a new one. They do wear out eventually.

Starter not working is a broad statement. But with the the preffis you gave & no other details I would suggest you remove the cove & take the
bendix out first. Mark Chaffin has a good looking bendix for sale & he sells new through the garage. Every used one I have got from him was very
good. This will help ease your mind about what the seller was not sure of. Look @ pics when you get it out to make sure it is all there if its missing
parts then you automaticly get a Model T Ford fishing license. As far as the electrical part that can be checked out with the bendix off other than having a load on it if that is what is wrong. Good Luck.

Sorry I did it too. Admin Jeff has ads most of the time and does a thorough job. Some times you can find a local shop that goes it but it is better
to leave it to those that know Model T's. I have all the tools & do my own but concider it akin to a prostate exam neccessary but not looking to
do it for fun or proffit. Hopefully you will get more figured out & someone localy may step up.

Thank you all for the responses. And thanks for not letting me ruin my mag. I watched a youtube video and i see the process. I do think the starter motor is ok as it runs without kicking the bendix into the flywheel. So when i find the bendix broken or compromised i will have to buy one. its hard starting with the hand crank when the engine is cold.

The fix may be as simple are a broken Bendix spring. Mine broke and was easy to replace without removing the starter. I had the same symptoms being described.

Hard starting with the hand crank can usually be improved by using an appropriate motor oil and making sure that the clutch and band adjustments are correct.

Model Ts function best with a light bodied motor oil, such as 10W30 or 5W20. I find that full synthetic multigrade oil does an excellent job in a Model T in any weather, including very hot weather at sustained highway speeds.

The last thing a Model T needs is thick, dirty oil.

Clutch and band problems, including linkage adjustments, can make starting very difficult when using the hand crank, and will also put needless stress on the battery, generator, and starter motor.
