FO-11 Stanley muffler

Post by Bob Sacchi » Thu Sep 21, 2023 5:42 pm

Looking to replace my muffler on the 1924 touring. I’ve heard it done that the 9N tractor muffler (Stanley FO-11) is a suitable replacement, and according to the specs it looks like it will work. Anyone who has used one, could they share how they mounted it? I don’t have a welder so other than taking it to a muffler shop, I have no resource to add a bracket.

This might be a little hard to make out but I build a bracket from 1" angle iron, bolted it to the frame in the muffler hole and put a U bolt around the pipe.

Here's another post on using a tractor muffler.

Usually just purchase a hanging strap w/ or w/o rubber clamp end, two muffler clamps and mount it up!

The stock Ford 9N muffler is a one piece muffler and exhaust pipe, perhaps you are looking at an NAA or hundred series tractor muffler. I have always run what the vendors sell for the steel end Ford muffler and exhaust pipe, allows the exhaust pipe to turn and twist with frame twisting. Never had a problem besides blowing one apart during a backfire. Solved that by brazing the ends to the outer shell, the inner shell will still turn and allow the exhaust pipe to twist. My current muffler and exhaust pipe have been on for over 20 years and still holding up.

My muffler fell off and Dallas and were able to put it back on. It is an FO-11.
It is not clamped to the exhaust pipe. I had to open the front of the muffler with a file so
it would slide in place like it is suppose to. Then we installed a clamp like you see here that
I picked up at Autozone.

Either one of these should work and it allows the muffler to swing a little bit back and forth
so it can move with the car.

I know where you live, sort of. I can always stop on my way to Detroit to visit my in-laws.
