Inner tube discrepancy

Over the weekend I was replacing an inner tube in a flat tire. I inflated the replacement 30x3-1/2 tube to make sure that all was well. Then I noticed the markings on the inner tube. This is the marking that is on one side:

This was on the other side of the inner tube:

It is definitely 30x3 tube.

If you have a spare tube that is put away you might want to open it up completely to make sure you have the right size!

In the store of things I know that are regularly proved wrong, I've been operating on the "commonly held belief" that tubes can be used successfully in either 30x3-1/2 or 30x3 tires. That said, I have both sizes in my road kit. Others better informed will set us straight, I'm sure ! :D
