The band on the top of the pile does not like it is properly attached. The lining is supposed to fit tight to the band. The way it is, it would drag on the drum when the band is not activated in neutral of a different gear. That will lead to quick wear on the bands.

The light is lots of trouble. I have to jiggle or tilt it just right for the bulb to work.
Trouble is where you find it.
Here is one from a year or two ago.

Re: Foto of the Day
Reminds me of a neighbor who had an old Ford. I was about 7 years old and a boy up the street was about 9. Our neighbor drove the car to work every day. We jacked up his rear wheel when he wasn't looking and the next morning looked to see what had happened. The jack was laying down right where he had parked! I suspect that the area was on a slight hill and when he took off the brake the car rolled just a bit before he started out!

Re: Foto of the Day
Like the cars, some of the tools seem to have their own personality. This one let me get away with it and the job got done. Knowing what can go wrong is always a good idea though. I use a board underneath when I'm serious.
When did I do that?

Re: Foto of the Day
The Buick fills the shop with smoke when it starts. The neighbors have learned not to call the fire department. I need to back off the oiler when I have time to experiment. It settles down after running a while.
One problem the Fords don't usually have. When did I do that?

What a great picture !! A tiny bit of tweaking, Kalamity Dick at the wheel, and in black and white (or sepia - even better) and it could pass for a period photo.

Re: Foto of the Day
I was enjoying the patched bow and the hole in the bow pad today.
The top was new in 1969 and I rescued it when it was replaced a couple years ago. I suspect the hole was from being folded down for a long time. The metal reinforcement was from too much snow on the bows a while back. The aged, weathered look and make-shift repair fascinate me as much as the shiny restored look of things. The best of both worlds I guess. When did I do that?

In friend's shop for a little restoration

Fall colors ! Rain overnight rinsed off most of the dust Lizzie was wearing. Through the summer, brass has tarnished lightly, turning multiple colors. I enjoy this "patina" as a harbinger of fall, like turning leaves on the trees. It's also the right amount of tarnish, enough to feel really gratified when polishing, and not so much as to be a tough job.

Re: Foto of the Day
The red tube has found its way out into the sunshine. Like the caterpillar into a butterfly or a tadpole into a frog the metamorphosis of the old car tire brings beauty and wonder to the back yard. Shredded cords and chunks of hardened rubber give way to splendor in the grass.
Just some more of Fall's magic. When did I do that?

Re: Foto of the Day
Looks like a geyser, however at close inspection, I think it is coming from the radiator. Be careful if you pull the cap when the engine is hot. I had a friend when I was in my teens, who liked to go up a steep hill on a hot day and then get out and pull the cap. He liked to see it spout off. Well unfortunately, he did that the day before his wedding and had to appear in front of his bride and their friends and families with burns on his face! He got too close!
