This came up today in my 'memories' on Facebook.
A year ago this weekend we started the build of my son's rail for TROG with my fellow Barnstormers. We started it in Massachusetts, and pulled it back to Detroit to finish in 67 days. Thankfully, I have some awesome club mates, it never would have happened without them, even though we are several states apart.
This was about 10 minutes after we got to Massachusetts and Michael saw 'his' car for the first time. Roughly 8 weeks later, he made two passes on the beach in Wildwood.

This was the Dudley Garage in Virginia, MT about 30 years ago. The dirt floor and wooded workbench were so charming. The cars have been removed and it is storage now. I wish I had taken more photos. It was such a extraordinary place.

Re: Foto of the Day
As part of our RMMT club fall tour this week we visited Elkhorn, MT. An old mining town most of which is a ghost town in nature. A few people still live here but only a couple stay all winter. This picture is of the Fraternity Hall. We spent all week traveling the back country roads visiting old mines, mills and machinery.

Another RMMT 2020 Fall Tour picture. Near Jefferson City MT. This place is still owned by the family who built these buildings. This barn is built hell for stout. Held tons of loose hay in the loft.

Re: Foto of the Day
With the beautifully restored brass carburetor pictures we are treated to here on the Forum I thought maybe these photos are a good contrast. We sometimes don't realize the hours of work that goes into making them look pretty.
The broken manifold and bent and broken throttle and choke illustrate what some of these carbs have endured. When did I do that?

This would have been 1988. I had finished my '15 roadster and was deep into the Bus project. We didn't find the owner. He had a Franklin in the shed and a couple other cars around.

What a great find that was! I remember back in the 60s there was still a lot of vintage tin to be found in out of the way places. I remember coming across a complete TT with a large tank on the back out in San Bernardino County on a piñon ranch. It was free, just haul it off.

Re: Foto of the Day
We had our minds on other things at the time. It was our 6th or 7th day of touring. We had crossed Beartooth pass a couple of days earlier and left a Studebaker broken down about 800 miles back. This Touring was in the same field. Perhaps a '23 Buick?
My children were 5 and 8. The maroon Buick had 4 children riding in it. Other projects weren't a priority.

It was Ironic to find a T that complete after spending 12 years accumulating the parts to restore the one I had just finished. There were also many collectors near these cars so the odds of them being available were slim. It is fun to look back at the pictures though. My children were 5 and 8. Re: Foto of the Day
Maud Lewis (March 7, 1903 – July 30, 1970) was a Canadian folk artist from Nova Scotia. Lewis lived most of her life in poverty in a small house in Marshalltown, Nova Scotia, achieving national recognition in 1964 and 1965. Several books, plays and films have since been produced about her. Lewis remains one of Canada's best-known folk artists; her works and the restored Maud Lewis House are displayed in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
Her paintings are often quite small - often no larger than eight by ten inches, although she is known to have done at least five paintings 24 inches by 36 inches. The size was limited by the extent she could move her arms, which had been affected by arthritis. She used mostly wallboard and tubes of Tinsol, an oil-based paint. Lewis' technique consisted of first coating the board with white, then drawing an outline, and applying paint directly out of the tube. She never blended or mixed colours.
A movie called 'Maudie' was released in 2016.

I like it !! That ol' Ford is just winking at the snowfall on the "first day of spring" according to the calendar. Here in Idaho, we had our "fool's spring" last week.
This week is "second winter" followed by "mud".

Nice drawing.

Re: Foto of the Day
I stay off the Interstate whenever I can but the Glidden Tour in 1990 made it necessary to use it to return to our motel on this day. Often times other drivers are the hazard. In this case a fellow pulled along side at 50 mph or so, leaned across and held a camera out the passenger window. He managed to steer and keep pace while asking questions. "Just another crazy" I thought while I tried to keep the car going straight.

This photo helped cool me off on this warm day.
The C-cab body is long gone but much of the rest of the vehicle lives on in other projects. I built it in about '82 after selling the racer body. It served us well. We had pulled the kids on sleds down to sand creek to do more sledding. When did I do that?

Fall Colors? As I tear into the Tudor transmission project I am noticing the beauty things have acquired over 20 years since restored.
Well, maybe it's not so pretty to everyone but I take my joy where I find it.
The "Cast Blast" engine enamel held up well but for some blistering. Rust stains contrast nicely with a bit of copper corrosion at the head gasket.Well, maybe it's not so pretty to everyone but I take my joy where I find it.

Last 3 days we had to have the AC on in the afternoon. It cools right down at sunset, but after noon it gets in the 80's or 90's. It is a little unusual for this late in the fall, however, this whole year has been unusual.

Re: Foto of the Day
Perry, in lieu of the young lady I will retell the story that led to this one.
I had sunk to spending days in the shop doorway wet-sanding rust from T parts. Sitting on a cinderblock with a bucket at my feet and letting my mind wander into oblivion. Reality becomes far away when suddenly a shadow blocks out the sunshine. I looked up and there standing before me was an exotic angel. My heart started pounding at something far greater than the task at hand. She explained that her boyfriend had noticed the old rusty cars in the yard from roof work nearby and asked if they could have wedding photos taken around them. Reality began to take hold. We made arrangements and they were even more pleased when they arrived and I furnished the nicer ones from the garage for their photographs.
Interruptions and wonderful young folks certainly can be a nice change from my simple pastime.
