I was given a couple of T rims and tyres recently. They looked petty good, so I was anxious to find out how good.
They didn't hold air, so I could get rough getting the hard old tyres off the rims. I found d this. This was in a clincher tyre, so even back in the old days, some were using unnecessary flaps in clincher tyres, with these problems. I imagine this occurred when levering the tyre onto the rim.
I'll continue to use rim liners rather than cumbersome flaps.

Found the same thing replacing clincher tires recently, except it was used as a rim liner.
