Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed has a 1924 Model T Touring Car that represents the 10,000,000th Model T. In June of 1924 Ford Motor company drove the 10,000,000th car from New York to San Francisco via the Lincoln Highway. The car in the Museum has made the trip twice, once on the 50th anniversary and once on the 75th anniversary! The Museum of American Speed is planning to drive the car again in June of 2024 for the 100th anniversary! Exact dates still to be determined. We would invite local Model T enthusiasts and clubs to meet us along the way and tour along for a portion of the way each day. Should be a lot of fun. We will have more details in the near future, just putting this out to see if there is any interest.

I love the idea of meeting up for a day trip. When you have more details, let me know. My club is based right around the Lincoln highway in PA. I'll check their interest too.

I think it follows Hwy 30 in Illinois and has a speed limit of 55mph. That is how I drove to Detroit a few years ago. Would be fun to join.

The Lincoln Hwy is Rt 31 when passes through Batavia, IL (a block from my house). In Geneva, IL the Lincoln Hyw becomes Rt 38 (Rosevelt Road). We have fair number of Model Ters in the area. I would join for a day.

Rt 30 travels through Ohio for about 250 miles. I suspect there are some members in our club as well as in neighboring clubs who would like to join the group for at least part of a day.
Please let us know well in advance the over night places and dates so that we can plan.

It split into 2 roads at the western end - originally it went to the "Oakland Mole" which was a pier for the ferry to take cars to the "official" end of the Lincoln Highway in San Francisco... it's now where the east end of the SFOBB sits, there is (or was) a road that went out there called Mole Road. When they built the bridge in the 30's they used part of the mole as the bridge landing, and demolished the rest. We (when I worked there) would go out there and eat our sack lunches under the bridge, or at the AT&T long lines cable crossing building - lots of old and abandoned history out there.

This would be fun to be involved in in some way. I'm about an hour south of Highway 30. We could have a caravan like they do for RAGBRAI!

This highway cuts right through the "middle of the north half" of Ohio! I've driven RTE 30 many a time in modern of course, which is part of the Lincoln Hwy. If we hear of dates and times in the locale of Mansfield, Ohio, maybe I can get some of our "clubbies" to join in down there, or at least meet at a restaurant in the area for a pit stop!

As an aside...for that matter, RTE 30 also passes just north of Bucyrus Ohio, a straight shot down Ohio Rte. 4 about 40 miles south of our club's "stomping grounds". Wouldn't be impossible for us to drive our T's to that region, or trailer, there's a nice new state highway patrol barracks just north of 30 I bet they'd let us park trailers there for the day. Just a thought.

Have to correct myself..apologize..Lincoln highway crosses 30 in a spot or two, as opposed to being a part of it.It's part of US 30A near and through Mifflin which added to my confusion. My bad. Plenty of places it is very near US 30 hence my confusion..nothing new there..ha ha. It also cuts through Galion Ohio and shares Rte 19 quite a bit on the way to Bucyrus Ohio.

Lots of info about the Lincoln Highway here
https://www.lincolnhighwayassoc.org/
The Lincoln Highway has undergone several route changes over the years. I expect that the planned rout for this adventure will be published. So they may not travel on parts of what is currently labeled as Route 30 that were not part of the orininal Lincoln Highway. example
In same cases parts of Route 30 are not the original Lincoln Highway

I have to chuckle about all those who get excited over the Lincoln Highway (circa 1912/1913).
Remember it was highway constructed to get folks out of New York. But remember that there was another high way constructed to get folks out of New York and points west - The Pikes Peak Ocean To Ocean Highway. circa 1915/1916. (

It “represents” the ten millionth Ford. I have seen it at Lincoln and it’s just a 1924 model T with some lettering painted on it. I don’t think anyone knows for sure what happened to the real one. I have seen a couple of coupes claimed to be five million too. Fifteen million car is well documented but Ford seems to have lost track of earlier significant cars.

How about meeting up with this outfit for part of this ride, Larry?
Their itinerary shows them coming through Lake Tahoe on the way to San Francisco. On the way across the state they'll go right through my town between Sacramento and Stockton. I hope to meet them at Tahoe and go with them to San Francisco, then back home.

Depends on where 30 starts and how it gets to Lancaster. Google does not show it very well. I am sure they are going to leave early in the AM. Find a coffee shop or restaurant on 30 and plan on sitting there milking your coffee until they drive by. If you are parked right at the entrance where they can see you they might swing in, add you to the caravan, and keep on going. Maybe make it a potty stop.

The Lincoln Highway in N.J. is routes 27 and 206. IF they come to Kingston, NJ, it’s a straight shot from there to the Delaware River crossing into Pennsylvania, thru Princeton and right by the Governor’s house.
US 30 starts in Atlantic City. I don’t foresee them going there.

Links to our route maps will soon be available at museumofamericanspeed.org. Use of the maps will be the best way to know where we will be. We will be departing from each hotel at 8:00 AM each day. Arrival each day will depend on planned events along the route, there are quite a few planned by Triple A and The Lincoln Highway Assn. Most of the events will be on our daily route maps. Below is where we will be staying each night for the 1st half of the trip.
Day 0 - June 1 - Holland Tunnel Inn, Jersey
Day 1 - June 2 - Fulton Steamboat Inn, Lancaster, PA
Day 2 - June 3 - Holiday Inn Express, Greensburg, PA
Day 3 - June 4 - Wingate by Wyndham, Mansfield, OH
Day 4 - June 5 - Holiday Inn Express, Plymouth, IN
Day 5 - June 6 - All Seasons Motel, Rock Falls, IL
Day 6 - June 7 - Baymont Inn, Cedar Rapids, IA
Day 7 - June 8 - Park Motel, Denison, IA
Day 8 - Museum of American Speed
Day 9 - Museum of American Speed
The rest of the trip lodging will be determined shortly AAA is working on our reservations.
Again we will have an 8 AM departure except for day 1 departure from Jersey. We will depart earlier to drive over to Battery Park for our official departure at about 8:30 AM on Sunday June 2.

Day 18, June 19 – Fallon, NV to Sacramento, CA = 192 miles
I would be quite concerned about this segment which is characterized by lots of traffic, especially semis, not to mention commuters, rolling along at 70+ mph. I hope someone is closely following to prevent being rear-ended.

I've considered a California Model T trip using the surviving long stretches of old Route 66. The problem is west of Needles, where I-40 is the only road for about nine miles. If I do take that on, I'll see if I can get a CHP officer to follow me up the hill with his lights flashing.

I think I rerouted over that pass years ago when Donner was closed due to a fire. If memory serves there was a segment that was 20 percent for over 20 miles. Comparable to Sonora pass that I've taken a t over so like everything it's doable.

From the looks of the marks on that parking lot, who was drifting in their T?

Sorry I won't be there this year.

Good morning... Since this event is starting as I post, would there be any TV coverage available for viewing for those who cannot go along the route?

Good morning all, just wondering if there is anyone in the Akron, Medina, Wooster area that would be trying to jump in for a bit at some point. I certainly am interested in doing so with our '24 roadster p/u. Not sure what the time frame is for them to be in the area. If anyone has an idea please post. Thanks much.

Go to
www.museumofamericanspeed.com, at top of page go to events and select Sea to Sea in a Model T.
There you will find the complete itinerary of maps, where they are staying, if a local TV channel might have
a story on them, etc. Maps are very detailed
Mike and Mike and the car look to be in great shape for the journey. They were at Homecoming.
I do not know if they will also post pictures there and commentary. Maybe here and on the website.

William ‘wingnut’ I’m in the Wooster area. Don’t know that I’d be able to swing in and tag along, but would sure like to see them go by. Do you know when they’re expected in our area? Their website says day 3 goes through Wooster, but I couldn’t find when it said the trip started.

I'm in Cedar Rapids Iowa. It would be great if could roll a long through town with you in my 26 speedster. A friend of mine also has a 24. I don't know if that's possible but it would be a thrill.

Hanging out at the Rutters #5 in my Tudor between Fayeteville and Chambersburg.
I can only run to I-81, but joining you even for a short stretch would be an honor!

Correction: Construction crew is directing traffic at the intersection, causing much commotion.
I pulled into the Dollar General a little further down.

I'm part of a contingency from the KC CHUGGERS Model T club out of Kansas City. Some of us will be traveling to Lincoln, NE to join in the celebration. Can anyone fill me in on any event plans for the time the "Trascontinental '24" will be in Lincoln?

I hope you will not be skipping the entire Donner pass route. It’s possible to go from Fallon to Sacramento using only about 20 miles of interstate 80, all on the downhill side for your trip. I would like to see you come through Colfax and Auburn. It’s a great dive and I have done it in a car equipped almost exactly the same as the Speedway 10 mil.

Despite only being able to tag along for a mere nine mile stretch, I had an absolute blast meeting everyone! Thank you all for being super accommodating, and making me feel welcome!
A special Thank You goes out to Teresa, who seemed like a random stranger that had pulled over to ask about my parked Tudor along the route. She actually informed me that the entourage is just one town over and would be coming through very soon! This was quite the relief as after three hours of hanging out in a Dollar General parking lot, I was beginning to fear I may have arrived a bit too late.
What an awesome experience!
Jim

Update! The car had a connecting rod failure that has caused some damage. Repair will take several days so our schedule has been delayed until repairs are made.

Mike,
I like your plan to get home, make the needed repairs and return to Pennsylvania to restart. This will impact many people's ability to meet you along the way but true Model T people do understand. As I told you on the phone I wanted to help. So I just made a donation to the Museum on your behalf to help defray the unexpected expenses. I hope this post will encourage others to do so too.
Drive safe and know we are with you,
Don

I can understand the need for replacing the hundred year old wood spokes, but it's a shame the new wheels weren't painted black as they were originally and the same goes with the additional lettering on the splash aprons, why? All that lettering could have been put on the support vehicle and trailer following behind without screwing up the original appearance of the model T.
That historic car now looks like a cartoon caricature of it's former self, it's a shame no regard for maintaining the historical look of the car after 100 years was considered. I was really looking forward to photographing it when it made it to California, not much point in that now.

I didn't bring it up because by now everybody is probably sick of me reminding them it's a modern fad. I suspect Larry agrees with you.

I believe the car is on loan to the museum. It is the family that made the changes.
