Good morning,
I’ll just preface this with I’ve already ordered a needle and seat.
Unfortunately, there is no amount of lapping or cleaning that would provide a fuel, tight seal for my existing needle and seat, and I would actually like to put fuel in the bowl to start this engine by the end of next week, it’s getting cold up here in Manitoba Canada !

My question is, what is the correct float level when the carb is held upside down? Is it like normal where the float sits level?

Temporarily I’ve inserted a viton oring into the seat to provide a seal for the needle but I will remove that once I have the rebuild kit, and I will then have to adjust the float level, because the needle will sit higher.

Holley NH float level adjustment. Instructions apply to factory parts and assemblies that aren't worn or float is cracked and can fill with fuel.




Test with suction to be sure the needle seats and seals.

Float measurement should be taken on the side opposite the hinge.

With all due respect, you need to get at least the following 4 books if you want to properly work on and learn about your T. Maybe other members can add to this list of essential references. Jim Patrick

I know it goes against everything the books say and everybody's best advice, but I find my car runs best with the float a bit "lower" than the spec. Never measured it, but my measurement is probably 9/32 - 5/16 instead of the 15/64 - 1/4. I also run a metal needle that I put in a drill press and polish with emery or crocus cloth. They are just not smooth enough when you get them. After polish, before putting in the float, put the needle in the seat and give it a light tap to make sure it seats cleanly. YMMV, but just saying what works for me.

I've got 2 U&J Carbs that are the same way. If they are level they will flood and stick to no end. As soon as I adjusted them down they run GREAT. They sure like to suck down fuel though. Smiles to the gallon though.
