Starting local club chapter?

One of the things I hear almost 100% of the time here is to contact my local club… there isn’t one. I am located in Topeka, Kansas. Is there a way to search people on the club site located in and around Topeka to see if there is any interest in forming a club chapter? I got to thinking heck I own almost every model t tool, book, and video I could buy and I’m sure there are people around here that can use them from time to time. I know it would be nice when I’m trying to figure this stuff out to have someone that knows what they are doing in my shop.

Try contacting MTFCA. Maybe they can advise you of folks local to you. Does MTFCA have a national Roster?

The MTFCA Chapter Coordinator is Kathy Tagert, kltagert@cox.net. She can probably tell you what the next steps are in forming a new chapter.

Strange as it may sound, try contacting your local newspaper...maybe even have em do a "human interest" story on your car and that you're looking for others in the subscription area who may have a T and want to start a club.

Tim's suggestion is a good one....it's worked before.

Would your area have a local group on face book? I know we have one here in Alpine, Ca. Many people these days don't even use newspapers.

I imagine the same thing that MTFCI always would do can be done also by MTFCA?

Someone has an idea such as Travis? International Executive Secretary would take Travis zip...and even in the by hand before computer days [Good olde Gerry Flory of Elgin IL], find all of the zip codes within 50 miles and all of the existing [and past] members in those very zip codes. The compiled list would be sent to the originator/requestor with addresses for contact and follow up, along with a handful of applications, and maybe a few 'extra' magazines to pass around.

Old school for sure...but certainly worked in the era. :D

There also could be a Horseless Carriage Club or a Model A club in the area. Some of those people could either tell you of Model T's nearby or Members of their clubs who could be interested in starting a T club.

Hey Travis,
I am a member of the KC Chuggers located in the Kansas City area. I realize we're not local to Topeka but we do have members who reside near Topeka and have involved themselves in some of our activities. Our monthly meetings are held in Independence, Mo and of course would be inconvenient for you to attend but we do have other events you may enjoy being involved in. For exaple we have a couple of shop days annually we hold held near Bucyrus, Ks. On those days we get together and work on Model T related issues, share stories and always enjoy ourselves. In addition we do local tours, support community interests/charities, have restaurant outings and generally try to educate the public on the marvel of Ford's Model T. We feel our dues of only $15/year for a single ($25/couple)is nominal if not extremely reasonable.
You can check our website out at www.kcchuggers.com

Please give it some thought and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks,
John
