Steve Jelf - Good News - 11/5

Post by DHort » Sun Nov 05, 2023 1:30 am

I had a nice chat with the nurse today. She told me that Steve has been moved to room 908, which is still an ICU bed. His Covid test is negative at this time. He is slowly improving and can accept visitors, but you might catch him taking a long nap, so maybe not worth to visit.

Apparently he was watching the Kansas/Iowa State game and cheering on Kansas. Kansas did win 28-21, so I am sure he was happy about that.

He is currently stable and they hope to move him to a regular floor soon.

I told them to talk to him about Model T's and old cars. Something that interests him. I do not know if any family has been to see him. That makes me sad, although I know that a lot of family members are concerned about him.

If anyone can take in a portable DVD player (if the hospital does not provide one), I’ll bet playing him videos of Model T’s will get his brain going in the right direction and could accelerate his recovery. Videos with him in them talking with friends about Model T’s and past meets would probably be of the most help to jog those memory centers that might still be inactive and just need a stimulus. Here's the latest from Steve's Facebook page:

Selah Wayseer is with Steve Jelf.

Been away from Fb for several days with company in from out of state.

Spoke with Steve's Nurse. He's done with COVID, thankfully. However, because of the recent brain bleed, he's back in the ICU at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (AGAIN!).

He tries to communicate, but he's not speaking clearly. This causes him to get a bit angsty. I can't blame him. Nurse says he's not really conversing on the phone with anyone, but she heard that some family might try a Zoom call with him soon.

I'm just crushed that Steve's great progress has taken a few steps backward. Please keep him in your thoughts.

Steve,
You still have plenty of time to recover and get a running T and join us on the Trails not often traveled tour in the San Diego Area next June. If you don't bring a car you are welcome to ride with me or maybe rotate from car to car as the tour progresses. Many of us have met you and would like to share the experience together. Most of the driving will be on back roads, yes we still have them, away from the big city.
Norm

As of 16 hours ago on Steve's Facebook page:

Penny Ingram Parker

Steve's brother talked to Steve's NP today. She said that he seems to be improving and they are looking at moving him to rehab again. He's still not swallowing very well, so feeding tube will remain in for now.
