What is this little clip(?) for; something to do with curtains maybe? I was wondering if the screw could be used to secure a mirror like in the second photo?

Miles,
That is a hook for the side curtain. That little screw is not robust enough to support a mirior in my opinion. I would suggest a clamp-on side mirror.

If you do end up getting side curtains at some point, be aware that the lower and middle clips are slightly different. Your pic shows the correct upper clip. The lower clip fits under the forward bolt for the windshield post and is shorter and straighter.
Lang's currently offers what is surely a limited supply of both styles of clips. I assume that T stands for top and B stands for bottom (?).

I used a rear view mirrow from Snyder’s. It’s not a clamp on but the windshield bracket is attached on top of the lower side windshield hinge. It’s a sturdy built mirrow and pretty stable. You can use the same screws that’s used to hold the bracket on or get you some that’s a little longer if you want.
It simply bolts on over the windshield bracket.

Jeff, thanks for verifying the function of the clip. The car came to me with one of those thin, stamped, chrome-plated sheet metal clamp-on mirrors. It shakes so much as to be just barely better than nothing, so I’m looking for something more robust. The ones on Snyder’s that look like they’d work are listed as “not currently available”, so I’m looking at this one on EBay Motors. I just removed one of the curtain clip screws and found it to be 5/16”, so I’d think from a size standpoint it should be adequate.
