I bought these jackstands years ago at a garage sale. Never saw anything like them, by their construction I would say pretty darn old. They look like they were orange. The bottom plate is cast. Anyone have any insight?

Looks like to me they were manufactured in the 40s-50’s but might be older. Pretty sturdy Jack stands whenever they were made.

Those are nice!

After a look on the net, it looks like everyone, and their uncle was making those. They all have a different twist. Maybe someone can find those in a catalog.

Yes I think you’re right Rich. Probably no patent on the design and different folks have been making similar stands for many many years. I bought a pair from Harbour Freight a few years ago that are almost identical. And they are painted orange but probably made in China!

Here’s a photo of a model T jack stand my Father bought at a Farm auction years ago. Like I said it’s a Model T jack stand but only sort of! It’s a 1914 Model!

I have good evidence that there was a patent for an adjustable safety jack stand that was issued in about 1940. The design consisted one pipe inside an outer pipe. The legs consisted of 4 pieces of angle iron.
