20-30 years ago I was trying to figure out what the correct gear spacing was. I had a perfect set of early straight cut gears and upon studying them I realized that they were essentially metric pitch gears and then the numbers worked out. I made some links to use for setting up my line boring and I got perfect gear mesh every time. No more need for off size cam gears!
