26-27 brake cam question

This is the first time I am building a rear axle. Apparently I need to rivet the brake cam lever to the hub brake cam. I have never done that and I am not sure how it is done. Is it pretty much the same as installing the pin that hold the universal joint in the drive shaft? Just peen the ends? Or is there more to it.

I also found out today that the brake cam levers for a 26-27 are not available. Am I better off trying to get some old ones off an old axle or does some one out there have a couple I could purchase?

Thank you for your help.

Just peen the ends of the pin over tight. You'll have to find some good origional levers.

If you need to replace the cam, all of the later cams have a washer on the end. A superior design.

If you cannot find 26/27 brake cam levers use the levers off a handbrake. They are the same piece with a slighly larger bore to fit the controller shaft. Wrap a thin piece of steel shim around the brake cam shaft for a tight fit.
