Loose wheel bearing race

Ok, so I finally got around to removing all four taper bearing races from my wheel hubs. I’ll be putting in all ball bearing races, but one outside race is a little loose. What is the best thing to use to keep it in place?

Hi Bill, This seems to be coming up a lot lately. This is what I did the last time. I picked up a cheap single knurling tool with 6 different wheels.
Cut it off & welded it @ a 90* on the end. Indicated the hub in the lathe & knurled the I D then smeared green Loctite on the hub & pressed it
in. Loctite 660 can also be used as was pointed out the last time this came up. If the hub is still in the wheel knurling like this is really not a
option.
Craig.

Some folks have tried dimpling the housing in multiple places with a punch to get a (temporarily) better fit. Each punch dimple produces a raised area around its circumference.
Also, Permatex makes a line of Loctite products specifically to address loose bearing fits:

The knurl job looks good. I would still use a little locktite product.
If the gap is on the large side, I have had excellent service with locktite 660.
Choose your locktite product it match the gap.
"Straw-berrying" the inside, from what I have seen, isnt a permanent fix alone.
There isnt enough raised metal to stay tight.

Locktite 669? Where do you find it?

I use the raspberry method and loctite 660, bolt together with a dry bearing, let sit overnight or longer, then take bearing out and grease good and assemble. I’ve had fantastic luck with this method, especially on front wire wheel hubs.

Forgive my ignorance, but what’s the raspberry treatment? Sounds yummy!

Its taking a center punch & punching a whole lotta times in the race area displacing metal.
Looks like a strawberry surface.
