I'm going screwy looking for screws.

It's been a while since I did any wood working, but getting ready to install the flooring boards on the WWI ambulance project. 1x4" boards with camphered edge and face screwed to supports. Got wood. Got router bit. Got jig I made to insure all screws holes are in alignment. Now, to find some screws. Perfect screw is #10 flat head slotted wood screw 1 1/2" long. You'd think I was looking for unobtainium. Home Depot does not carry anything slotted. Lowe's does not. ACE hardware does not. WalMart does not. Amazon can deliver them in March. Found a company that shows them in stock on their web site 1 1/2 hr drive away.

I better start saving my throw aways.

I started hoarding them some time ago. 6, 8, 10 and 12gauge. Harder to find are raised head countersunks [oval head?] I have two gallon tubs in each gauge. Then there's brass ones and a few stainless ones. I have stopped buying them now. They have long gone from hardware stores, so swap meets are an intermittent sources. How many 1 1/2" 10 g do you need? I can supply, but postage may make the cost prohibitive.

How about Grainger's or McMaster-Carr? I've had good luck with them in the past.

Robert, I see Menards.com has them in zinc coating. Manufactured by Midwest Fastener. Is this what you are looking for? https: //www.menards.com/main/hardware/fasteners ... c-8940.htm

I found mine in the hardware store that had been a business for years that wasn’t a chain store or one that was going out of business after years

McMaster-Carr got it going on. They are in L.A., but every time I called from Turlock (300mi.) they were delivered the next day. They are awesome.

As I mentioned, I did find some at a "local" supplier that is a bit of a drive away, but doable. And, I can check MC as they have a distribution center here in Atlanta that might have them in stock and they are closer. I did find the Bolt Depot and I am sure there are sources to order in bulk and await delivery. My point that I failed to make is that running up to the local hardware store or big box store for a box of 100 isn't happening. Alan, great idea of stocking up., thank you for the offer. I need a minimum of 120 for the floor decking and I should be able to get them in a day or two. Just surprised that they are running out of favor.
When I need some for my WWII jeeps, I need oval or pan head and I usually have to pay a premium and end up with brass.
Hope I don't need a quantity of square nuts.

I am surprised that no one suggested eBay. Search by lowest price first and watch the quantity being offered. There are some ridiculous prices, but also some good bargains.

MC has the steel zinc plated #10 1 1/2" slotted flat head screws in a box of 100 for $7 and I can pick them up tomorrow. I have not searched eBay as it would take a week or more to get here.
Now to find that darn counter sink drill bit...

I bought 3 5 gallon buckets full of boxes of nos screws. Most are slotted. most are not wood screws but best I can remember there were some wood screws in the batch. It may be tommorow night before I can tell ye but I will check and see if I have what you are looking for. I would like to use slotted screws on t stuff but no luck keeping the bit from slipping and scaring wood. I am using torx bit type on the skids i make for antique gas engines, and still the bit gets away from me sometimes and hits the wood. :(
That is 1.5 inches long right?

Believe it or not, if you go on Walmart website you can get #10, 1 1/2"slotted wood screws, delivered in 3 days. Not for $7.00 for 100 though, they want $20 something. Their online site kind of runs like Amazon. I've bought quite a few "off the wall" things through their online site. The last thing I got was a new pump for our washing machine.....$32.00 to our door (including shipping), best price I found anywhere.

I purchased my screws this morning. McMaster Carr had them in stock and they have a facility in Atlanta and ordered and paid for over the phone and picked them up at will call. So, now I'm ready to attach floor boards. But, interesting that slotted screws have lost popularity at the retail locations.
Thanks to all who offered to assist, but this was more of a alert notification than it was a request for screws.

Not surprising because slotted screws suck!
And a slotted screwdriver usually has gone bad because it was used as it was really designed for, to pry on things.
