In an attempt to fix my out of tire balance problem I'm going to over correct. My tires and tubes are well over 20 years old. They are just starting to show weather checking along the rim. I'm going to put on new tires and tubes. At the same time I'd like to replace my demountable rims with new also as the old rims were questionable at best back when I first put them on. I just cant find any! Is anyone making new demountable rims for my 19?

I got mine from Vintage Rims Australia, they are very nice. They are Hayes style, the lugs are welded to the rim. One thing I found is that the fit of the lug bolts to my original Hayes felloes was very tight, I had to use a rat tail file to make one of the lug holes more oblong to get the last bolt in.

We tried to fix a "balance" problem on or 26 touring and rebuilt the wooden wheels with no luck. Got a set of wire wheels but still had a problem. New spindles and the problem was still there. Next we jacked up the car and spun the front wheels. The front had two new tires, Universals, only to find that they were not round. There was an area of about 6 inches that were smaller from bead to bead.
The manufacturer said that the tread was too worn for any warranty to cover these tires.
You may want to jack up and spin your tires. Hold a screwdriver against the treat to see if it is the same all of the way around.
May be a place to check.

I bought 4 rims last year from Australia and they are great.

I ordered rims from Australia... unfortunately the placement of the raised "bump" behind the lugs would not allow the rims to go on the felloe far enough to make contact with the rear flange so they were just running on the lugs and the front of the felloe. The nuts won't even go all the way on the lug bolts so there was no way I was going to drive on those rims.

The rims do fit the narrower Kelsey felloes but not Hayes or Ford felloes. I've had some discussion with the seller about the problem but he has not replied to my last two emails.

In the photo you'll see the gap (arrow) between the rear flange of the felloe and the rear of the rim. They should be making contact.
