Hi all. What can I use for the sealer for the sediment bowl? Will Permitex #2 work, or is there something better? Thanks, John

What are you "sealing"
Permatex on threads
Lead gasket on the drain fitting.
Graphite string packing on the valve stem.

I need to install the sediment bowl to the cowl gas tank, thanks

Do not use Teflon tape or sealant for "gas" valves (that's natural gas)
If it for gasoline make sure its soft setting and will not harden. There are lots of discussion on how to get the sediment bulb off when stuck.

Are you installing an original cast iron Ford script sediment bulb/valve? Yellow Teflon tape is what you use for gasoline fittings as long as the threads are sharp and not damaged or pitted, otherwise, use the pipe dope. Just be sure it will stand up to gasoline. For a sure seal, feel free to use both. Jim Patrick

This stuff if pretty good, I have used it more then a few times and seems to prevent leaks on gas fittings, along with being rated for that application;

Mark. I read all the information the Permatex link and cannot see where it is specifically for gasoline. Are you sure it will stand up to gasoline? Knowing me, I probably missed something LOL. Respectfully submitted, Jim Patrick

Read the specifications. It does mention fuel fittings.

The yellow. "gas" rape is for natural gas not gasoline

Expensive, but one tube will outlast you and have enough left over for your GRANDchildren.
sloppy threads on the tank fitting? a couple of turns with cotton (NOT NYLON) dental floss will fill the voids....keep away from thread end.

This stuff is great! Easy applicator cap too!
Definitely for gasoline and many other fuels.

I agree that PTFE tape can be used for gasoline. BUT I don't trust the color of the tape to indicate its overall use (too much stuff made overseas ) prefer that it states what its made of Material Polytetrafluoroethylene or just PTFE --

I was replying to Johns post about the Permatex sealer not the tape post.

I'm with Dave Dufault on his choice of EZ TURN Lubricant for aircraft. It's Fuel resistant. I've had fuel shut-off valves that would drip constantly. After taking the valve apart and putting a small amt on the moving parts the leak stops and so far no re-do's on any of my T's. On carb sediment bowls, I will apply a very small amount (be stingy) around the lip where the bowl mates and so far no leaks.
