This picture was posted in an earlier topic. I have some pitting on my block, and I want to get some of the High Temperature RTV that's mentioned in the post where this picture was.

What High Temp RTV should I get? If you have a picture of the tube, please post it.

You will need to get the copper RTV.

There are a number of exhaust manifold sealants advertised on the net. Personally I don't trust the stuff. Better option is to mill the manifold and inner ring surfaces smoother.

The Ultra Copper. The high temp red isn't high temp enough.

That's my pitted block in the picture.

I used this Permatex product. It's fine. It seals, and when I removed the manifolds after almost three years of driving (including Detroit and back) it was unburned. The label says red, but as the first picture shows it's closer to orange.

Permatex brand is important and red or copper should be ok. There is a new Ultimum Grey the is good for 700*F. Others are still close to 650*F and like Steve said his worked fine. The Red was first colored one we used to use then a copper pigmented one came out later and now a super Grey one... I believe sort of like the Green differential oil one that to me is sort of a advertising event to sell more. Next will be one for each different part of the car.
Permatex makes some of the highest quality products and my Favorite being the amazing Ultra Black. I just ordered a large quantity for just under $5 bucks each! I pass on the savings to other club members.

I love Ultra Black. But I learned to buy it in small tubes. If you use part of a large tube the rest will be set up by the time you need it.

Steve, I'm not sure what you mean by a Large tube but commonly guys here use the 3.5 OZ tubes which is more than enough for most all jobs. We've had pretty good success with using the supplied tip and taping over the end when finished. It has always been pretty easy to later unscrew the tapered applicator if you need to apply more to a different job. The RTV activates from the moisture in the air so it's best not to leave it exposed any longer than necessary.

...not sure what you mean by a Large tube...

That would be the 3.35 ounce size. I carry a couple of half ounce tubes in my tool box. They're not sold everywhere like the larger size.
