Re: FYI. Interesting car ...
Is this a 1909, or a 1909 tribute? We need to quit calling cars older than they are when in reality they are era replicates.
How about a 51% rule. A majority of parts are both real and a specific date or production year, and the car can be called that year. Otherwise we call it by block date.
We an only lie to each other so long
Over generations this will become an issue.
The real truth should be our guiding principal.

Re: FYI. Interesting car ...
Well, it should NOT be called a 1909! It is a '12 style body, '12 style rear fenders, '12 style front fenders, and in general appears to be a '12. The engine appears to be a '20s starter/generator block, with pan, head and many other things to match. It looks like it may be a decent 1912. But nothing about it says "1909". With an incorrect engine? The price? Well, you can guess.
Nice looking car! I wish I could have it.

Re: FYI. Interesting car ...
How about only cars that have been all together all of their life, with 70+% of their original parts being referred to as a specific model year?

Re: FYI. Interesting car ...
Martynn Vowell and I were going out to view it however the trip fell through. We were told originally is that it was a two lever car.
Mart was going toe the photo guy on the project. Didn't pan out and as you can see it wasn't as advertised to us.
My first glance at the headlights said to me something wasn't as claimed. Oh well, it'll be a fun car for someone if they aren't to fussy. The price seems to be a little to over confident.

Re: FYI. Interesting car ...
Well at least in the description it does say it has a 23 engine with electric starter.
BUT the owner is probably trying to get close to what he has invested in it. Nice looking T for a tour car or general fun car.
Reasonable price would be around $25.000 since it is probably a well built car.

Re: FYI. Interesting car ...
This car isn't a 1909 anything and this guy actually thinks he can get 49 grand from anybody who knows Model T. But then he's offering it in Hemmings not on this forum, so maybe his chances are better than they would've been here.
I could point out what is and what is not correct (as we all can) but that's not really the sad part of this...What's really sad is I don't think the guy even know it isn't real, the president of our chapter talked with this guy and he said the guy actually thinks it's a real 1909 Model T Ford and bought it as a speculation investment...buyer beware as the saying goes. I think he's in for a really sad surprise.

Re: FYI. Interesting car ...
Martynn,...I think you're right. My first thought when I saw that "cheapo" replacement mirror was that the owner/seller knows very little about Model T Fords, otherwise, he'd realize that to anybody that DOES know Model T's, that mirror sticks out like a sore thumb! Personally, I'd take that mirror off and throw it in the next box of stuff to sell at the nect swap meet!
It is a very nice car however, and for something less than half of what he's asking for it, I'd love to have it! I'm guessing that the guy just hopes some rich guy that knows no better will just pay the asking price "on impulse" and everybody lives happily ever after, right?

Re: FYI. Interesting car ...
The interesting thing about this '12/23 being pawned off as an '09 is the astronomical price they're asking... like someone said, buyer beware. The sad part is someone will buy it NOT knowing what it really is, and well... another one bites the dust, and the hobby takes yet another hit.
It IS a pretty car and probably is the bones for a pretty decent '12 build... or a REALLY fun parade car... maybe even reliable as all get out... it just irks me when people have something like this and try to sell it as something it's not.

Re: FYI. Interesting car ...
A little OT but when I clicked on the link to the ad, I discovered that there were several "related cars" listed as well. One was a yellow sorta speedster. The ad said that it was in Portland CT. I think that's where Wayne Carini's "Chasing Classic Cars" F-40 Motorsports is located, and the building in the background looks similar to Wayne's business. I wonder...

You mean for the 1909? No that's a housing community in Newberry Park CA.John Codman wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 12:34 pmA little OT but when I clicked on the link to the ad, I discovered that there were several "related cars" listed as well.
