Coil rebuil capacitor fit question

I decided to try and rebuild a few coils. The new capacitors I received from Langs are cylindrical and do not fit in with the glass plate. Do I remove the glass plate with this newer style cap?

I did when I used the round capacitors to rebuild coils.

This assumes you have the 418P47494 type capacitors and a Ford manufactured coil.
There are two ways to install them: one is to remove the glass separator to make room for the cacpacitor OR; if you prefer, remove the glass separator AND the two wooden blocks between the glass separator and the secondary winding, after installing the capacitor reinstall the glass sedparator in the area previously occupied by the wood blocks.
Regardless which way you go, always repot the coil with tar to firmly hold the new internal parts/wiring from moving.

I have found that it is easiest to carefully remove the left side of the coil to gain access and remove the old glass and capacitor.

And after your connections are checked , and the side is replaced, hot tar will keep everything in position including the wood side you replaced , no glue needed on the wood.

I have been running coils that I installed ignition “condensers” from’60’s era design Ford cars for at least 40 years. I removed the glass to get room and never “repotted” with tar ( some RTV yes). They work great and I have had them recently tested and they test great.

Rebuilding those coils is what the British call penny wise and pound foolish!
Been there and done that!
This #3 tar barrel cost $95 about 25 years ago, I hate to ask the price now.

Why aren't the oval style no longer made. Is there something inherently wrong with them.

Hi Art ..... I'm not sure who made those capacitors, or even if they're still in business that I noticed also that they're not available. The ones that I installed in coil rebuilds as far as I know or still working because I haven't had any complaints.
