Color for coil box wood 1926

Got a new wood kit for my coil box, wondering what if any color it should be or maybe just clear coat with some varnish. I searched the older posts but came up empty. Any suggestions wood be appreciated. (pun intended) JIm

Jim... I have used boiled linseed oil on replacement wood . Gives you nice color to the wood and also seals against moisture and carbon tracking possibilities later on..... One to three coats of oil after a few days to me is fine before assembling into coil box.

Tried to colorize an old photo. Didn't change much but looks like unpainted wood. We do know that Henry wouldn't add a process if it was unnecessary and added cost.
Yes sealing is advisable. I use Minwax wood hardner - it penetrates into the wood fibers. Others uses a variety of sealing methods

Thanks for the replies so far, I think the linseed oil sounds the best to me since I have some on hand. As far as the plastic or nylon I'm cheapskate so didn't even ask if it was available. Jim
