These are great model T roads with very light traffic. The Mississippi river valley here is wide and flat with deep black soil that is great for growing soybeans and corn. And at least one BIG TREE! Count me in Scott.

Had a great tour today! Temperatures low to mid 70's with sunny skies. Six cars about 50 miles at a leisurely pace along backwaters and bayous in the Mississippi river valley. Some of us went to see the massive pecan tree that I saw four years ago. It's still standing! Thanks Scott for a great tour.

It was a glorious day for our tour. 2-lane black top, oiled gravel, and gravel roads next to and on top of the levee made for a nice drive.
We had an interesting starting, as the Porsche club happened to be starting from the same place. Other than one extremely rude owner that informed us that we were not allowed to be there because they had the lot, we had a great time. The nice owners took pictures and videos of us as we left. We waved and smiled as we went out on a 50ish mile ride.Light breezes, sunny weather, and great friendships make for a memorable event. We had 6 cars and almost 20 people join us

Crossing the Mississippi at Louisiana several times, I've noted that the wide and flat bottom land is on the Illinois side for several miles until you get to Atlas and climb a little. Farther south the bottom land is on the Missouri side, and south of that it's in Illinois. Topography is one of the things I notice when I drive.

Before channelization for barge traffic, the river was constantly changing. Since the state line was drawn, the river has moved in places where now parts of Illinois is on the Missouri side and parts of Missouri is on the Illinois side.
