….specifically for TT C Cab top wood metal corner brackets. Each of the 2 rear corner brackets have 5 bolt holes for 5 carriage bolts - 3 with nuts on the inside and 2 with nuts on outside in the rear. Of course I’m removing the zinc finish from the carriage bolts and painting them black…… but are the nuts square or hex ?? Any original C Cabs with brackets out there ?

I just researched this over the weekend. Consensus on the interwebs is that hex nuts came into vogue in the 1880s or so. Some claim they were made even during the 1700s.

On the depot hack that got redone at the Village this past winter the greater majority of the visible nuts are square. It is an older Currier body.

I would probably go the same route- use square nuts where visible and hex in hard to get to/not visible locations.

Your mileage may vary.

Thank you Jason and Jeff. Then square nuts it’ll be! A long time ago a seemingly knowledgeable man said “Ford used square nuts on any bolt that passed thru wood”. So I used square nuts on the inside of my ‘14 firewall until a more knowledgeable man said “ they should be brass plated steel hex nuts”. So, in my ever increasing vigilance to be more correct, I changed them out. This C Cab wood roof thing is just another iteration of my attempts to be more like Original Smith

George, these photos were taken in 1913 of a Tornado-damaged '09 or '10. Look at the nuts on the dash. They are square for the windshield but hex for the lamp brackets.
