My car broke down at Homecoming

We arrived in Miamisburg Ohio and climbed a hill about the height of Pikes Peak. At the top I lost my low gear. Two ladies helped push me in to the parking lot. I am now at home, and checked out the tranny. It appears the bands were installed backwards and the detachable ear on the low band had popped off. No wonder I lost low. I am trying to determine if I can replace the band without removing the hogshead. My guess is no.
Good thing I was traveling behind the 10,000,000 Ford at Homecoming because I will not be able to do so when they pass thru Illinois.

				Not enough info.
Depends on the band material & year of Hogs head.
Cotton or scandia likely yes. If possible the easy way is to remove reverse first then low. If brake is backwards remove next.
Re-install brake, low then reverse bands.

				John
Kevlar
Hogshead has port for starter, but no starter in it, and not a 26-27. Motor is 24 , but hogshead is?

				Kevlar....... Pull the H/H.
The bands need to be perfectly round.
Anything less risks excessive friction-heat-broken drum.
Whall you have the H/H off consider putting in a new low cam set.

Now I wonder how many people have ever wondered why the detachable ear has to be on the pedal side or driver's side.
You answered that queston!

Check the band for a fault, the fact that the removable ear was reversed is not an issue, RHD T's have the ear on the pedal side as well.

Sorry, I never followed up with this post.
All 3 bands were installed backwards with the detachable ear on the passenger side.
Turns out the band that popped loose was a generic band and the other 2 were Ford.
We replaced the generic band with a Ford band after removing the HH and now all bands are correctly installed.
Speedster is running well.
I think I gave at least 20 people rides at OCF, so the bands have proven to work well
