Free advertising! I love it. Yes, it is a complete & professional redo. Interestingly, the new logo was one contest I ran (winner was from Spain) and the site design was also a contest and that winner was a whiz kid from Pakistan. He even coded the entire site for me now that I have better things to do.
I'm almost ready to add my starter/generator brush plate rebuild kits to the shop. I'm now fabricating ALL of those components - brush holders, springs, insulators, backing plates, etc. Even the brush plates are being made. Reproducing the Starter/generator carbon brushes are this winter's project. Literally Every single Model T still on the road will need each of these parts at some point.
It's not sexy, but somebody had to do it.

I think this is a very exciting project, one I have been following here on the forum. I bought one of the Fun Projects regulators years along with a very nice ammeter for my '23. The ammeter was needed for adjusting the third brush if I recall correctly. This was a set and forget installation, I never even have to think about it, its that good.
Now I'm working on a '14 with an 18 motor that has a starter & generator. There is no ammeter. Can these new regulators be used? Do they need adjustment of that third brush? How would this be done?

An 18 motor has no provision to mount a generator.

Gee, I'm not going to argue with it. There is no discernable serial number but the casting numbers sure look like it says 18. Is this wrong?

I see an opening, like a 9.
5-8-19. May 8, 1919

Post a photo of the carburetor side - easy enough to verify a starter block OR not !

Wow! May 8, 1919. Exactly 74 years to the day before I got married. And I turned 74 last Sunday. Serendipity!!

I could be a 9, but if so, its a poorly designed 9. The car has a generator. Too bad there is no serial number that I can make out.
No matter to the issue on this thread, do these new VRs need an ammeter to set them up? If so, how is done with no installed ammeter?

You use an analog ammeter between the cutout & the in/out yellow power wire that runs to it.
Which is typically more accurate than the OEM style on the switch plate.

It is highly advised to use an ammeter. Otherwise, how do you know if your charging system is working? And you need to be able to set your charge rate on the generator. So, its a worthwhile investment. I have an extra original ammeter I could part with if you need one.

From the photo of the block it would appear that the original engine number has been machined off. The mating surface of the side outlet appears proud of the engine number boss, rather than on the same plane as usual. Neat work to do the machining around the side outlet.
