Is $500.00 too much to pay for a good Giant head?

A new Z head is about $330+ and does essentially the same thing. Of course if your thing is era correct accessories, want cast iron, and your wallet is fat... I wish I had one to sell to you.

I prefer cast iron to aluminum heads, they're heavier but you don't have that weird dissimilar expansion rate... as long as it's in optimal shape, and guaranteed no cracks or overdecked at some point, why not. Not the best deal out there, but not the worst, either!

My thoughts are if you are interested in it, have the cash, are happy with the price and the seller is happy too, then it must be a good price.

If it's a good fit for you, then it's a good price. No matter what the price, you'll have some people telling you that you got a great deal... and as many telling you that you paid too much. Don't buy based upon anyone's approval other than your own. If you still care about what I might think, I'd say that the price is within the range that I'd expect to see, assuming it's in good condition, no cracks, etc.

"High Compression Heads" are not necessarily that much higher than a low stock head but offer different performance characteristics.

Larry, the head I was referring to is a Giant Power head. I know it wouldn't increase the compression like a Prus head would, but like Suzanne said, you don't have to worry about dissimilar metals.
