Turn the speed way down. Maybe 200 rpm. Then it will look like this:

Can you explain how you built up the material around the socket? Weld, braze, other method? I need to find a way to fix this.

An 1 1/4 " ball mill requires a lot of pressure to cut weld. I can't see how a drill press would work. I did the same thing using a tig welder and silicon carbide with a 1910 pan and the pressure warped the pan on a mill. I like the idea of brazing the hole. Not so tough to cut

Richard, You need to drill a 3/8 inch pilot hole before you use the end mill. Doesn’t require as much pressure.
