Broken Door Latch/Lock

Post by sundown9 » Mon Jul 22, 2019 4:36 pm

Just as I was loading my '14 touring into the trailer for the trip to Tarytown NY and the O2O run, the door latch (rt front door) quick locking the door. The same thing happened to the left rear door some time ago. I removed the lock and find the spiral-wound clock spring has broken. I do not see an easy way to repair this so I am looking for advice on how to fix these two latches. I can buy two new ones for $320 (if they are not "out of stock") but would rather fix the ones I have if I can. Any advice will be appreciated.

I have found a spring on line. Is this the one used in the door latches?
Calvas Torsion Spring Door Lock Lever Latch knob Springs for Door Handles Internal Wound Coil Repair Replacement. It is 28 mm OD and 19 mm ID with a 10 mm "finger". Cost is $21.89

I have found that a spring for 1939- 46 Chrysler products is a perfect replacement for the 1914 Model T door latch.
