Another Scam

I was looking for some rear fenders for my 26 Coupe and had my son help me post a want ad on Facebook market place.
I still have a flip phone.
Got some replies but one offer stood out. Guy sent photos and seemed legit but my son did a reverse search on Google
for the photos and this link showed up from 2012 from the forum.

The guy said he was from Colorado but would not give us a location. He only wanted $75 for each fender and he was
paying for the shipping, in a crate. This one was pretty easy to figure out but I wonder how many times he has sold these fenders.
Watch yourself.

Really doesn't matter whose name was used. Its easy for scammers to have multiple accounts in Facebook. Facebook is a scammers paradise, one needs never to trust the seller or buyer. Transactions need to be verified well in advance. Sell items "as is" so the buyer can't make a fraudulent claim against you.

He gave us the name of Brian Fluetsch. His profile has now been deleted on Facebook.

That’s one of the main reasons I’m not on Facebook Frank. I occasionally sell T parts on our MTFCA Classifieds next door to this Forum. Without exception, every response was a bonafide buyer unlike the HCCA Classifieds. When I used to list Brass bale cowl lamps or a Splitdorf Model H magneto FOR SALE, every responder is a scammer.

This may be slightly off topic but in the arena of scams there's yet another new one out there called a "brushing" scam. A package arrives with no return info etc., but has a QR code thing inside and instructions ask you to scan it from your phone. DO NOT SCAN IT. If you do "they got ya"! ALL your info on your phone is now theirs. Bank stuff, whatever you use your phone for. The sheriff said go ahead and keep the "surprise gift package" (likely some cheap junk) but do not touch that QR code!

That last one would be wasted on me. I don't think my phone will "scan a QR code", and I wouldn't have a clue how to do it. The ones that tell you to "put your finger on the screen" are also lost on me. I always answer those by posting a picture like this.

I am also reluctant to take surveys sent to me via email, even when they are related to recent transactions or events. Just got one from my Insurance Company about their handling of a claim, they did a super job. Called the agent and said thank you, but wouldn't do the survey because when I checked the website (copied it & entered in a Google search) my virus software warned me that some personal information may be involved if used. Now that can be expected in this instance but still I delined

I'm the same as Steve; I wouldn't think my ancient cellphone has the capacity to scan one of those QR (?) codes, and I don't know how to do it. I also don't care enough to learn.

You're not alone John. It's awful how everyone thinks everyone has or can understand a smartphone and this QR crap, scanning and checking in your plane tickets, the list goes on. Add to that jars and cans that we'll let's face it a LOT of people especially elderly can't even OPEN!! Sorry for getting on my soapbox here!

Sometimes a pair of oil filter wrenches will do the job, if they aren't too small. :D
