Looking at an APCO adjustable tie rod end, it appears there is room to install a zerk fitting. I know it isn't original but has anyone ever done it and if so, did it help?

Yup and yup. Please don’t tell larry smith. I have an original with a pin alemite fitting, so they were sold like that, so that would be more appropriate.

Just a comment - The APCO adjustable tie rod ends seem to work much better than the fixed cap. They compensates for any irregularities in the ball and result in very smooth action with no binding or loose spots. Since my car will be a driver I am going to install zerks to make greasing easier.

Good idea, I'll look into doing that before I install them.

Be sure the zerk doesn't extend too far into the housing such that it interferes with the spring. Other than that, looks like a good enough idea.

My 11 touring that I got from my g'pa had APCO's already installed with grease fittings. Not sure if he did it (highly unlikely) but the front end is still tight after fifty years of service. I normally give a shot of grease every few months.
