I recently found an exhaust pipe diverter at a swap meet I installed on our 25 coupe with a muffler with cast iron ends and an oval exhaust port. I didn’t like the sooty residual on the spare tire and thought this Side discharge diverter was the ticket! It certainly shoves the exhaust in the general direction of the right rear wheel. Not only does it do that, but it also sets up a flow that pushes exhaust back into the car, via any small opening it could find. After giving the car in front of me for a poorly running engine, sending exhaust behind him to our car, I found that not to be the problem. Every car we followed had the same effect on us. So, removal of the diverter solved our in cab pollution. Kind of makes me wonder if the guy behind me was getting that smell now! If I gassed out anyone behind me on a recent TN mountain tour, you have my sincerest apology! Our car by the way was running great.
