Christmas came early!

I have to polish the brass on my Haigh's Chocolate's van for an appearance next week. It usually takes me a long, boring day to do the brasswork, a task I am becoming less enamoured with each time it has to be done.

My dear wife took pity on me and gave me an early gift It is a little marvel, without any oil.
Using my regular Autosol paste polishing cream it did a fantastic job.

Before I started the second lamp I moved the time. It took just 29 minutes from srart to finish.

The polishing tool is battery operated and rechargeable. It has two speeds. Even on the faster speed it lacks the power to fling the lamp to the other side of the workshop, taking your thumbnail with it.
I timed the second job 29 minutes from start to finish. I am rapt. Just need to keep on with it to find out how long it will run before needing recharge.
I have never been game to use my bench mounted buff to polish lights. It is too dangerous, to the light and the operator. I do use it on the stay rods for the windcreen.

For the show car, there would still be some extra finishing for the fussy people. I'm over that. I'll do the radiator next but that will require some manual work in tonight places.

Very cool Allan!
Never thought of handheld battery operated polisher. I like it!

My arthritic hands would take kindly to such a gizmo. Might have to get myself one. Which pad did you use? I see you can buy a "kit" containing various pads, although surely you wouldn't want to use some of them on brass.

I see you used the round brush Allan. Could you use the cone brush at the bottom 90* brass radiator ? I’m getting a set too. Your commission is in the mail. ;o) Thanks.

The yellow box kit comes with a cone brush as well. The pads are held on with velcro, so you can put whatever you want on them. I have cut a couple of sheepskin pads to try, when i can get the velcro backing for them. My wife bought three of the kits on line for Christmas presents, for a total of AU$135 delivered.
George, the cone brush may be a little harsh, and difficult to get into action due to the proximity of the headlight forks if you want to do the radiator mountings. I guess that bit might still need to be hand worked. I'll find out later today.

Here in the states you can get one for around $40.00 as seen on TV at Amazon and occasionally at Wal Mart near the check out aisles. I don’t have a Brass T but that’s what I would use if I had one. It makes me wonder if brass T owners in the early T era polished the headlights after a year or the radiator either. But they might have if they had one of the hand polishers that’s available now!!
