Well after many many hours I have got the engine to run non starter car after 65 years Now a problem, pushing down on low gear heard klunk klunk klung then low band went out. Pulled inspection panel loosened low gear Bands were all there nuts and springs were on drums I took nut off of brake withdrawing pedal to have more room to inspect ( yea I packed area with rags I would have to assume some metal is hitting other metal for each revolution. Before I do my hatred job of pulling the hogshead any advice from your past experiences . :|

You mentioned the engine hadn’t ran in 65 years. Could be the band linings have deteriorated if you didn’t replace them. Your description of the sound sounds like a broken drum but hope not. Does it make any sound when you turn it over by hand with the switch off?

=Thank you for the comments I am posting another post on how to diagnosis a broken drum. My understanding and what I can see is two -3 smooth drums connected to the bands and planetary gear. By slow,y hand cranking the engine I should be able to see cracks ( broken chunks) from these drums causing the loud clunk sound?
