Is the driveshaft housing (part 2582) the same from 1914 to 1927? I understand the internals mat differ, but I need the housing for my 1925 Model T

There are three styles - early w/flange for d.s. spool, later w/no flange for spool & '25 ? - '27 with stepped housing at the u joint end.

Does the stepped housing have the U-joint housing riveted to the tube?

I believe the major difference preventing some interchange is at the rear end. On the tube for the back axle assembly which used the open spool. the flange on the tube is flat. The earlier ones had a ridge around the outside of the flange which went over the the outside of the closed spool. This means the early flanged type will not bolt up to an open spool, but a later flat type will bolt up to a closed spool.
The same applies to the spool fitting the axle housings.

Yes, it does. Kent. I should have stated 4 types. Only the very early torque tubes had the bolt on u-joint housings.

In the mid to late 20's the separate casting at the back end of tube was deleted and the flange was made integral with the tube. I can add a fifth variant to Steve's count. Some of these later types were stepped at the front, others were a smooth taper all the way. They were interchangeable from the introduction of the open bearing spool as far as I know.

About mid 1920, the new design forged steel 'open spool' pinion bearing housing, where the housing bolts are exposed going into the axle halves, was introduced. The torque tube or drive shaft housing p/n 2582 was also changed to Factory # 153B to eliminated the ring or flange that contained the older style malleable cast iron 'closed spool' that hid the housing bolts.

The earlier 'closed spool' and parts were discontinued. Using a new 'open spool' as replacement on an older Factory # 153D housing this bulletin noted to remove that flange to use the new style housing.
