What would be a good source for thin wrenches... Example holding a post nut while tightening the cable nut on a starter switch.

Amazon has many choices, for example:

Not a recommendation, just made a search. EBay would likely have them too. Best, jb

Thin wrenches are called tappet wrenches and since they are not very strong, what I do is take a cheap wrench the size that I want and use the belt sander and slowly make it the thickness that I want. Don't let it get to hot and it won't take out the temper.

Robert,
As was mentioned, they are called tappet wrenches. I just recently purchased a set of Craftsman off e-bay.
A quick search and I think you will find what you need,
Hope that helps,
Kevin

I do as Denis does. The other place a thinned down wrench is useful is when adjusting T model accessory adjustable tappets.
Until I found two different stubby 9/16" ring spanners I used a pair of shortened, thinned down ring spanners on carburetor mounting bolts.

For that task, I gut a slot in the post with a dremel, then hold the post with a screw driver to tighten the nut.

While it is true that tappet wrenches have a thin profile, you don't have to limit yourself to tappet wrenches.
Just google thin wrench set, super thin wrench set, thin wrenches or thin profile wrenches and will find a good selection.
