Questions about a Stewart Warner 280 speedo

Greetings from (a bit too) sunny Germany !

A few weeks ago I could buy a Stewart 280 speedo which found it's way from the U.S.A. to Poland.
Driven by an electric drill machine it seems to work correctly, so no need to take it apart.

What i found on the internet and in the old forum this speedo was not meant for the Model T but to my taste it's appearance is o.k. to be used in my 1916 Tourer.

Speed ratio for the gear and cable is said to be the same as for a Stewart 160. Can anybody confirm that please ?

The reset for the trip counter is on the back - if I pull it out it moves the trip counter in bothe directions (turnd clock- or anti-clockwise) - is that the correct operation ?

Any suggestions how to fastenn the speeedo on the wooden wall ? There is one hole in the middle of the back. Was this the point, where some kind of clamp was fastened for the original use ?

If there is a threaded hole on the back side, then make a U shaped bracket that you can screw to the back of the speedometer body. You pic looks like there might be such a threaded hole.

They didn't usually use that model speedometer in Fords, although I have seen them.

Your speedometer can be used with any Stewart drive setup and will be accurate. The speedometer was made for more expensive cars in 1926-27, but all connections for Ford setups work on the Model 280. The only problem is that there is no mounting bracket made to adapt this speedometer to a wood firewall, and the input shaft goes directly out the back of the speedometer making mounting to a firewall very difficult. Joerg, If you mount that speedo head from a bracket in line with the edge of the cowl in the front seat, there will be room to hook up a cable to the speedo at the back. It would not be possible on an earlier wooden firewall. If you make a plate with a neat fitting hole to go around the body of the speedo, the U shaped piece suggested can be fitted to pull the speedo back against the bezel, thus securing the head in the bracket. The legs on the U piece need to be just a little longer than the depth of the instrument body. One screw at the back to fix it in place is not the best, but it can be done.
