Anyone see this brand of head and got any idea what its worth? In excellent condition.

That is a Giant head. Haibe and Simmons also made a head which are very very similar. All are hi compression heads. I have seen them sold in the $350-$600 range.

I have 2 GPHs on my Model Ts. Great performance enhancers. I also agree with stated price range.

Got to be a little careful here... Those early high compression heads only had enough area in the head for the standard lift on the camshaft. The newer "Z" head is cast and machined to accommodate the higher lift cams to operate valves.

Hmmm..... I've got a Giant head that I was going to use with a 285 cam. Not going to work?

Let me elaborate a little.... Standard valves with standard lift and standard diameter Will be okay to use with those early high compression heads. If you have a cam with a higher lift or a larger diameter valves, that could be a problem as those valves would hit the cylinder head... I speak from experience. The Ralph Zajac " Z " high compression head has deeper recesses for increased lift valves, but I'm not too sure about extra diameter.

David,
If you cannot use your Giant head, I could use it.

I'm going standard diameter, extra lift. I guess the only way to know is to bolt it up and check for clearance. Thanks for the heads up. Also, sorry for jumping ig on this thread, but good info for anyone with the "old" high compression heads they're thinking of using.

The way I check clearances for the head is set it on the block Without a gasket and use a bolt at each end for alignment. Then crank the engine slowly for at least two turns. If no contact GREAT!!
Another traditional variation is chew some gum and put some on the piston and or valves in any areas of concern and repeat the process. Inspect the gum SQUEEZING!
