Removed this from a car I purchased. Is this used to charge a battery, run lights, or? Was going to throw it on a table at a swap meet, but not sure what it does or if it has any value.

For an early non-starter cars that use a “helper” battery to ignite coils. This would charge that battery?

Mike
Beware.
It will charge a battery but when it is fully charged the internal
circuitry will render the magneto useless for driving because it cuts off 1/2 of the
magneto waveform connected to the coils.

It is a shame that they are not made any more, I use a 6v bittner charger and a E timer so I have good lights on a 16 for many years, a much better set up than the diode and globe on the mag.
