26-27 Paint Questions

I have looked at the 'Encyclopedia' and at both of the late Bruce McCalley's books, but find conflicting information. #1 Should the windshield frame on 26-27 ENCLOSED cars, be painted the same as body color, or were all windshield frames, black? #2 I have seen nothing in print, to indicate the the entire 'belt line' around a coupe or tudor body should be painted, black, regardless of body color, yet I have seen at least three coupe bodies (both restored and unrestored) where this was done at one time or another. The books and the encyclopedia say the belt line should be body color with the body striping just below the belt line. What's the correct answer for each question?

Windshield frame inside and outside and inner window trim is black. Belt line is body color.

Yes, my unrestored 27 Tudor sedan had body color beltline with pin stripes and black windshield frame. But, that is not necessarily evidence they ALL came that way.

John: Beautiful photo, reminds me of a Richard Eagle (RIP) painting.

Windshield frame and interior window trim were all black based on everything I've read, jb

You are very kind James, Rich did have an eye for the colors of oxidized steel. :)

Humble Jeff, That is a good way to get to the underside for painting black. However be sure the radiator, crankcase, and gas tank are drained completely before doing or the top will be ruined. There are colors listed in Bruce's book, but without paint samples, not easy to reproduce.

Bruce's book has black and white pictures. The color of the coupe was Channel Green. I don't know of any color samples available. The fenders and everything below the body was Black and the radiator shell was nickel. If the original paint is available anywhere on the car, you might be able to match it. Otherwise, it is a guess.

Ford literature for 1927 (Available on Cimorelli.com) states that the coupe and all closed cars for that year were offered 'in three pleasing colors, Grey, Maroon, and Green'. That inverted '27 coupe shown above was gray. And as Norman states, the exact color match will be a challenge. jb
