Love those scammers!

Post by Tbird » Tue Jun 25, 2019 1:04 pm

So I received a reply for a part I was looking for from the HCCA. The email smelled fishy so I further enquired. He sent me a picture of the 12 that he has. I googled the image and found it on Pinterest. LOL Here’s the thread from a Paul Haggis:

Hello,
I am Paul , just want to know if you are still interested
in 1912 Model T spares you requested for , please shoot me an
email if you are still interested.
Have a nice day.

Hi Paul,
Yes I am.
Thanks

Just attached the picture of my 1912 Model T below , I`m breaking the
complete for parts , since you need some parts there is no problem ,
I want you to send me the complete list of parts that you need , so
that I`II will give you prices for them .

Please I`II also need your exact shipping address to enable me figure
out the shipping fees to your door step .

Hope to hear from you soon next.

Paul,
That’s a very nice looking 12. Why would you be parting it out when it looks like that? Do you want to sell the complete car?
If not here’s what I need

4 rubber lug nuts. They are the earlier ones without the Ford script

Fuel pump

Water pump

Automatic transmission gears (this would be for the 5th Gear)

Master cylinder

Touring top with the light switch built in

Brass horn

Early exhaust manifold

It looks like your car has the “blind man’s” door. Hi know those are very rare, would you be willing to sell it?

Here’s my address
100 E Wayne St # 310
South Bend, IN 46601

Hope to hear from you soon!

The address I sent him was for the FBI office!

This problem is everywhere. For the past 3 or 4 days my wife has been getting calls from an "877" area code, but a different phone number each time. A recorded voice informs her, "This is the Social Security Administration Office. You are receiving this call because we have detected unauthorized activity on your Social Security card. We are about to cancel you Social Security number. Press 1 for more information about this case."

Of course she hangs up, but I can't help but wonder what would happen of she did press 1. As far as I know Social Security doesn't have her cell number and I'm reasonably sure (positive) a robo call with a recorded voice is NOT how a federal agency would communicate such an item.

Be careful out there!!!!!

Heres the latest thread of emails:

PAUL: Thanks for your concern, the car belongs to my dad but he is no more,
he pass away few months ago.

Sorry I can't sell the complete car because some of his club members
need some of the parts also.

See the prices for the parts you requested.
4 rubber lug nuts. They are the earlier ones without the Ford script=$50

Fuel pump=$200

Water pump=$140

Automatic transmission gears (this would be for the 5th Gear)=$300

Master cylinder=$80

Touring top with the light switch built in
Brass horn=$80

Early exhaust manifold=$150

Then shipping to your door step will cost you =$200

Let me know if my price are fair enough.

As soon as I received the funds now I will pay my mechanic out of the
money and order him to get the parts removed immediately, then pay for
the shipping and send you the shipping tracking numbers.

Hope to hear from you soon next.

ME: Ok great! How would you like to be paid?

PAUL: Alright there is no problem, Below is my mechanic bank account
details, you are to go to your bank and transfer the money into the
account and send me the scan copy of the deposit slip.

Bank name : Bank of America

Account Name: Eddy Rawlings Graham

Account number 488082188753.

Routine number:1110000025

Swift code, BOFAUS3N

Graham address:6750 Greenville Av,Dallas Tx 75231 USA.

Total amount to be paid.. $1,200 only.

Please let me have the scan copy of the deposit slip as soon as you
transfer the money.

ME: Paul,
Unfortunately we don’t have a Bank of America. Can I just send you a check?

PAUL: It doesn't matter, you can transfer the money from any bank to bank
of America.

Just go into your bank and ask them to help you transfer the money,
is very easy and fast.

ME:So I’m at my bank, and they are asking for proof of retrieval funds? (I'm messing with him now)
They said there’s a lot of scammers trying to get money from people, I told them that you are not a scammer since you gave me a picture of the car. They are asking for your home address though. Can I have it?

PAUL: I understand, but I'm not a scammer, I have never stolen from any
body since I was born not even now.
15723 lamphere
Detroit,Michigan
48223 USA.
Let me have the scan copy of the deposit slip as soon as possible.

ME:I didn’t know you were in Michigan! I can drive up and just pay you, it will save some money on shipping. What’s your phone number?

PAUL:Please transfer the money into the account now and let me the scan
copy of the deposit slip.
I work all night and sleep all day. (HMM he sleeps all day?)
Hope you understand better now?

PAUL: The reason is you can not get me, because I'm a very busy person,
so is better you transfer the money into the account now.
So that my mechanic will get the parts removed immediately and send
them to your door step immediately.
As l believe we can both still do business in future since you are close to me.

ME: Paul,
I’m just going to drive up and see your mechanic, plus this will allow me to inspect the parts, to make sure they are in good working condition. If everything is good, I’ll drop off a check with your mechanic and you won’t have to worry about us meeting up since your mechanic will be there. Let me know.

PAUL: Look, you don't need to doubt what I'm telling you, if you transfer
the money into my mechanic account now.
Then I'll book an appointment with him because ,I'II like him to get
your parts removed first, so do not be afraid as I know what I'm
talking about.
Hope you understand better now?

I'm going to see how long I can keep this guy going for....LOL

YIKES!!

NO federal agency whatsoever contacts ANYONE by phone or email... Initial contact is ALL done vial snail mail letter.

I know you know this but if you ever, EVER question if it was really the IRS/FBI/DHS/etc., trust me - it's NOT!

If it's THAT bad they'll send an agent to your front door (yes, they still do that).

Of course you knew this... right??

Thanks Susanne. Yes, I know. But there are people out there who don't. It's hard to believe, but people still fall for such nonsense.

I have twice recieved the "IRS has issued a warrant for your arrest" calls. I freakin' LOVE to get these things. They tell you to press 1 or 3 or whatever but if you just hold on someone answers and man I go to town ! I hand out the phoneyest crap you've ever heard and both times they hang up after a good string along. The best though was the "Hello Grandpa" ? call. You know, the one where your grandkid is in custody & needs bail money? Man put that one on speaker phone and my wife was rolling on the floor laughing ! Most fun I've had in a long time. "What happened to the ten grand I sent you last month? I just wish I could see their faces when I start shoveingl the natural plant fertilizer (horse s++t).
Forget everything you thought you knew.

I looked up the address on Lamphere.... it's a vacant lot in an extremely run-down neighborhood.

So I told Paul that I don't live too far and was going to make the trip up and talk to his mechanic and see the parts for myself and I would just drop him a check. He told me not to come and no one would be there....but just go ahead and send the money and he would tell the mechanic to pull the parts off the vehicle. I told him that I was at his house and no one was home...He hasn't responded back. LOL

I got a call this morning, from an actual person. "Is Anna there" now I've fallen for this before and said "no" thinking it was a wrong number and it's just an attempt to engage in conversation. My response now it "Yes, I'm going to get her for you" Usually after I do this it is 4-6 months before they try again. This time they waited a full minute before hanging up.

Be careful about using the word "yes". It can be recorded and used to document your agreement to something you did not agree to. I always say, "Can I help you?" It usually results in a hang-up.
