What distributor do I have?

Just bought a car with a distributor. Not sure who made this one. It is not connected to the timing lever. Should it be or does it have weights? Are tune up parts available? Thanks

American Bosch Magneto Corporation. If you scrape the paint off the logo below the Magneto Corpn lettering in the last photo that's the Bosch Red Devil/Camille Jenatzy logo.

Thanks for the info. I see tune up parts for Bosch are made. Not sure if it is model. I would prefer coils, but the mag. Is dead.
As a short term fix are these decent with new tune up parts?

Should there be a manual advance?

Thanks

Take the cap off and try and move the rotor by hand see if it springs back or if it is solid. If it springs back it has weights and advances.

Mag on my TT truck is dead also so i run a 12V battery to the coils. Works well and does not drain the battery very fast. That may be an easier way/ lower cost than the dizzey route. (I actually took off a Bosch dizzey to use the coils on the 12v battery). My Bosch needed an automotive coil and a manual advance.

Yes it was a real birds nest in there before I set it to rights!

Hi Mike,
That is a 600 series Bosch distributor. Search https://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/1 ... 1283107846 & you will get most
all the info you will need. They where the standard for distributors in the day. New parts are not available but the originals are pretty durable
Most are centrifugal advance & some centrifugal advance have a arm on them for additional retard when starting. The three issues most found
are lack of lubrication @ the shaft & contact rubbing block & miss aligned gears. If the shaft is loose but otherwise in good shape the body can
be bushed. If the contact rubbing block is worn to far to set the points the adjuster can be machined to get the needed gap. There is a article
on installing Pertronix electronic ignition in the forum. According to the info a model T coil can be used but I have not tried that yet.
If repairing the mag is not in the near future then running a distributor or the T coils on battery is the go to solution.
Craig.

It appears to be an American Bosh 600 but not sure which version. Both had centrifugal advance. The distributor cap does NOT appear to be an original cap but my guess it works. The original had a tab on the bottom of the cap to index it properly. Yours appears to have yellow markings. In any case Distributor Caps for the American Bosch 600 are in demand and a "will fit" would be of interest to users as well as the rotor being used. Can you see if there is a part number on cap & rotor also pictures of the what is on the plate inside the head. NOTE VW Bosch parts will not fit
A bit of Google search shows a American Bosch 600 with a Magneto Corporation distributor cap with number 65942 on the top and 47-5 on the inside. Now a new search begins

This is helpful info. I am keeping the car remotely and I will get more photos and details the next time I’m out there.

Thanks
