Original foot starter switch rebuilding

How should the bolt flat contacts be in relationship to the crossbar when the switch is activated?..., Should the rounded flat contacts or the 9/16 inch square flats be in the line with the crossbar??

The oval contacts have been cross-wise to the plate on switches to be rebuilt.
The upper contact is in mostly original position, the lower was twisted with removal.

I believe the flats are only there so you can keep a wrench on them while you tighten the first nut on the terminal. It probably doesn't matter how they are oriented, but that may not suit a tidy mind.
It is important to have a thinned down wrench to hold the first nut firmly when adding the cable, spring washer and second nut to the terminal
