A Facebook Marketplace Treasure...

I was scanning through FB Marketplace the other day, just looking at machinery for sale, when an ad caught my eye. I wasn't even thinking about T stuff when this popped up. I thought it might be a scam, but for the $70 asking price I thought I'd give it a shot. It arrived today...

Yup, I thought of that Dan. I believe he only sells the tap & reamer as a set, however.

That’s super neat to find the box with it! It doesn’t look beat up either. Really good things are out there and you have to be at the right place at the right time!

Great score. Even if you buy the pair of reamers from Dan, you are still doing very good as to price. I would recommend to get the reamers from Dan and also look for a single taper reamer to complete your set. Having a extra pair of reamers is a wise investment. Dan has almost quit making them a couple times. He may not have them for sale much longer. Make sure to use the thrust washer on the reamers while using it. The reamers will cut backwards into the fixture with out the thrust washer, ruining the fixture.,

I believe the thrust washers are there, but I had no idea what they were for... until now. Thanks!

I did not notice the washers were there till I looked at the photos again. Yes the thrust washers are there. I changed my post, but not before you commented. This is a very useful tool. One other thing to remember is to check the front axle with a file before using the taps. If the axle has become "work hardened" from use, the reamers can be ruined by using them on the hardened axle. To check, take a file and file all 4 of the wear surfaces on the axle. If a file does not "cut" , then the axle needs "annealed". To anneal the axle, shine up all four of the wear surfaces with sandpaper or stone. Just enough to be "shiney". Then heat each area slowly with a torch till the shiney surface is just starting to turn "blue". Then let cool off slowly. They will then be "annealed" and safe to use the reamers on. Use lots of oil or tap fluid and clean often as reaming.

Actually, he did know what it was, since it included an original sales ad.
