A friend brought me pictures of this and wondered if I knew what it was. My first thought was a Urn. Thought I would post here for those with greater knowledge to help.

I've never seen anything like it. My guess is it's a container to store calcium carbide for use in headlights, a miner's lamp, or even home lighting. Carbide has to be stored in an air and moisture tight container or it will deteriorate.

Hard to tell how big it is. Dimensions would help
Is that a cork on top or brass plug?
Since it says "Complements" on the top & looks like an URN... Might someone's ashes be inside = Funerary urn

So, what are all the answers? It's not a lamp in any traditional sense. It has no burner or gas jet, nor does it have a place for one. It has no obvious way to mount it. It also says "Compliments of Corcoran Victor", as if it's some sort of commemorative or promotional item. What lamp has anyone seen that stated "Compliments of ...."?

Maybe a wick burner screws in where the cork is.

Ash tray maybe?

Is the top on that a door/lens from a ‘15 sidelight?

Looks like the size of a coffee cup with a cork in the bottom. If smaller it could be a salt shaker.
