Now that the auction is over I was curious where some of Rich's paintings ended up. Anyone else in here win anything in the sale or have one of his paintings? My wife and I couldn't decide between two and ended up with both but paid more than I expected. I have never bought artwork before but felt they were worth whatever they went for so I am just happy to have them and to have known Rich through our short chats back and forth. I once told him I thought he was the Norman Rockwell of the model T's.

I won some 1990’s copies of “The vintage Ford” and a couple radiators, and a luggage rack.

I purchased the "Around the World" Thomas Flyer painting. I have a very close relationship with car. I worked at Harrah's Automobile Collection, met George Shuster on a couple of occasions. Did some research at times on the Thomas. I've cranked the Thomas, ridden in it and actually had a short time behind the wheel. It's quite a car with incredible history.
That was the ONLY car in the collection that was not to ever be polished, wiped down or cleaned. After any outing it was brought back and put on display with the mud, dirt , oil drips and stains as driven. There is quite a story of the actual restoration, then aging the car to look like the car did at the end of the race.
I was willing to pay a lot more than I did. I have a lot of Harrah's memorabilia collected from the time when I worked there and in the following years. I recently purchased a 1910 40 hp Stoddard Dayton that had been on the "Reno tours starting in 1956. All of the tour plaques are still mounted on the dash. I even have the trophies that were awarded to the Stoddard.
Rich was quite an artist, his detail was very intense and accurate. I did not purchase the painting for its numerical value but the historic value to me. I was surprised at the prices paid for some of the paintings. It was auction fever I guess.
just sayin'

My picture "The Around The World Thomas" arrived last Saturday. It's now at the framers. The painting was done on off white canvas, and I'm hoping to back light the painting most of the car and passengers are darker shades. Back lighting may bring the car out as the focal point, or I at least I'm am hoping so.
