Assistance is needed to document what the key pictured below is used for, when it was introduced and who made it, if it was produced by an outside vendor. Thank you in advance for any information and have a great day.

Might it go to a padlock?

Looks familiar. I am thinking a spare tire lug lock.

Shape of the key seems like 1931A sedan Crown door lock key, but is not that, the key is too stubby.

There are several on the web for sale, all have the "DF" prefix too.

Guess we need an early script Ford key expert ;)

I also found some others. The number range would indicate the need for a broad variation of different locks. One eBay questioned possible Tractor key but that didn't check out. The keyway looks stamped not cut. The search for an answer continues

My recently purchased 1924 Fordor came with an after-market locking steering box at the top of the steering column. I have no idea what the key looks like, but it is just a thought.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I checked two locking steering columns, not a broad sample, and these keys do not fit. The mystery continues!!

I have a key like that too. I seem to recall someone mentioning once that it was for a glovebox on later year Fords. Maybe... maybe not... Web searches don't seem to support this theory. For a tractor maybe?

With a little help from AI (indicated that "DF" was a YALE series key code). So a search on YALE instead of FORD indicates in this link that it was a Door Key https://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/8 ... 1256968161
Also there were other key codes for YALE locks used on Ford cars of that era
